Welcome to the Chair of Human-AI Interaction at TU Dortmund University
- Announcement
Our research focuses on Human-AI Interaction, which lies at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). We aim to design, build, and evaluate the next generation of computing systems that enable humans to collaborate with intelligent systems in meaningful, efficient, and trustworthy ways. This includes work in augmented and virtual reality, robotics, and mobile computing.
In the coming months, we will establish a Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) Lab, equipped with robotic platforms and a psychological sensing lab, including a high-density EEG system. These facilities will support our interdisciplinary work by enabling detailed investigations into how people interact with intelligent systems, both cognitively and physically. By integrating methods from psychology and computer science, we aim to develop systems that adapt to users, respect their needs, and foster trust.
“My research goal is to allow humans and machines to learn and accomplish tasks better together.”
— Prof. Dr. Sven Mayer
Before joining TU Dortmund, Prof. Mayer was an Assistant Professor at LMU Munich from 2020 to 2025. He previously conducted postdoctoral research at Carnegie Mellon University in the Future Interfaces Group and received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Stuttgart, where he was part of the Cluster of Excellence for Simulation Technology (SimTech).
We look forward to building strong collaborations across disciplines and institutions and contributing to the development of trustworthy, human-centered AI systems from the Ruhr region and beyond.
